C.A.R.E. will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, October 21, at 7 pm at its NEW meeting location : 141 East Camano Drive (next to CASA). The return to this venue allows us to provide speakers as part of our monthly meeting, to update us on things going on in our community and in the greater Puget Sound. This month, Kris Kristoferson of the Kristoferson Farm, will come to provide information about their proposed zip-line canopy tours. This will be a low impact, recreational use on their heritage farm.

For the October meeting, we have invited our sister organization in Snohomish County, 7-Lakes.org to come to tell us about their successful battle to prevent a fully contained community (i.e. new City!) in the Lake Goldwin, seven lakes area near Warm Beach. Check out their website www.7-Lakes.org . There are important issues that deal with water in their appeal of a series of rural cluster developments proposed when the city was put on hold by a moratorium imposed by the Snohomish County Council. We hope to share information and learn from their experiences. Ellen Hiatt Watson, one of the active members of the organization, will talk to us about the issues and successes of their group.

ALSO!!!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR NOVEMBERS MEETING, NOVEMBER 18! WE will host Everett and Port Gardner's Transition coalition to inform us about the peak oil Transition movement.  We will be exploring whether Camano is interested in establishing a similar organization.  Check out the article on our website and its links as a preview to this meeting. We will start early with a potluck to celebrate the cornucopia of the fall harvest (more to come on times later), and will have a movie and our guest speaker, Jackie Minchew of Transition Port Gardner and Green Everett  ( http://www.green-everett.org/) will share with us what a Transition movement is and how we could use it to promote our vision of maintaining our rural community.
Please call Joan Schrammeck, 387-9589, for questions or directions.
