On September 11th, President & Michelle Obama are calling on all Americans to join together in a sustained, collaborative, and focused effort to address the nation's most challenging problems.

Here on Camano Island, Camano Action for a Rural Environment (C.A.R.E.) in collaboration with Karla Matzke will do just that. The general public is welcome between noon and 7:00 pm to “Camano Honors Earth” at Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park, 2345 Blanche Way, Camano Island, WA.

"On this day of national service, what better way to ensure the security of our nation than to protect our water, promote good steward ship, encourage responsible land use, and preserve the integrity of our natural habitats. This event encompasses all of these aspects of C.A.R.E.'s mission."                                                       --Allison Warner,  C.A.R.E. President

This daylong educational and inspirational event will feature an Environmental Art Exhibition, speakers, interactive educational activities, poetry, music and art. It includes Hugh Shipman, a coastal geologist presenting on climate change’s impact on shorelines and Island County Commissioner John Dean addressing community service as a way of honoring earth. The event will showcase the premiere of the Camano Honors Earth video project, local residents describing how they honor earth.
Artwork shown during this special exhibit, which lasts through the end of September, was selected by gallery owner, Karla Matzke who sought work that connects people, the earth, and actions to save the treasure that is Camano Island for future generations.
